CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

In this interactive parent and child class, your baby is introduced to the aquatic environment. Babies become more comfortable in the water by getting their faces wet, blowing bubbles through their mouths, reaching, kicking, and resting on their backs. You, the parent, are introduced to safety rules and holds to help your child feel secure. Music and toys are part of the fun in this introductory class.

  • This class meets in the Therapy Pool for 30 minutes and has a parent in the water.
  • To advance to the next class, your child must be able to float on their back for 5 seconds and reach for an object in the water in an extended hold.

This is a 30 minute class focusing on increasing independence and confidence. Introducing stroke development (Ice cream scoops and making it rain with kicks), submerge into water, breathing techniques and retrieving objects. Your child will master floating 5 seconds on front/back and attempt to climb out independently on the side of the pool. Water safety will also be discussed through each lesson. This class will take place in the therapy pool.

This is a 40-minute class that will take place in the main pool. Will focus on breath control, treading water, master floating on front and back independently 10-15 seconds, changing direction with little to no help, and retrieving objects. Your child should independently be able to climb out on the side of the pool. Water safety will be discussed through each lesson.

This class is designed for those who can confidently move independently in the water. Swimmers work on technique for the freestyle and backstroke and begin learning breaststroke and butterfly. They will continue treading water and begin practicing head-first entries.

  • This class meets in the Lap Pool for 40 minutes.
  • To advance to the next level, your child must be able to take 3-4 comfortable rotary breaths while independently swimming 25 yards of freestyle. They must also be able to independently swim 25 yards of backstroke and tread water for 30 seconds.

This class helps your tot take the next step in swimming and water safety. Independence and confidence are gained as your child improves their ability to separate from you in the water. Group games and music add fun as academy members master blowing bubbles and submerging briefly. Your child’s arms and legs will move more rhythmically, and they float on their back with the help of both parent and instructor.

  • This class meets in the Therapy Pool for 30 minutes and has a parent in the water.
  • To advance to the next level, your child must be able to float on their back independently for 10 seconds. They must also move their arms and legs with intention to swim.

Your child learns rhythmic breathing and how to retrieve objects while fully submerged.  They combine arm and leg motions for freestyle and backstroke.  Swimmers learn to transition from a float to a swim and to tread water. They also review safety skills.

  • This class meets in the Lap Pool 40 minutes.
  • To advance to the next level, your child must be able swim freestyle to the flags and roll onto their back, as well as swim backstroke to the flags. They will tread water and float for 15 seconds each.

This level is swim team prep. Your students’ freestyle and backstroke will become proficient, as well as improve their breaststroke and butterfly. Participants continue improving their diving skills as well as increase endurance, efficiency and overall fitness level through swim conditioning drills.

  • This class meets in the Lap Pool for 50 minutes.
  • To master this level and graduate from the Falling Springs Swim Academy, your child must swim 50 yards of freestyle, 50 yards of backstroke, 25 yards of breaststroke, and 25 yards of butterfly. They will also dive off of the block.
  • Graduating from this class allows for a fast-track onto the Hammerheads summer swim team!

LEARN TO SWIM BASIC INFO:
Learn to swim classes at Falling Springs are instructed by trained swim instructors and are designed to teach children how to swim, starting with getting children comfortable in the water in water babies and water tots classes, to technical strokes in the upper level classes.  This program advances children through a series of levels moving from basic skills like blowing bubbles, putting their face in the water and floating on their backs to basic stroke development and treading water and then on to more advanced stroke development.  When completing all levels children will be able to swim comfortably with multiple strokes, be prepared for swim team participation or simply a lifetime of fitness through swimming.
